Captain portrayed by Tom Hanks wishes quarantined actor well from New Hampshire
Capt. Richard Phillips was in New Hampshire as part of an event sponsored by the veteran support organization, Swim With a Mission. Hanks played Phillips in the movie bearing his name, Captain Phillips, based on his real-life hostage rescue from Somali Pirates.
Phillips is glad Hanks is staying put.
“He’s doing the right thing,” Phillips said. “He’s lucky to be in Australia, probably has smoke bothering him but he’s doing the right thing, staying away from people, trying to stop the spread.”
When asked what message Phillips would send to Hanks in quarantine, the captain said, “It’s better than a lifeboat.”
